What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes silvery-scale red, flaky, crusty skin patches.Usually, psoriasis affects the outside of the elbows, knees, or scalp, though it may occur anywhere.

Psoriasis is the result of an uncontrolled cycle of skin growth. Skin cells normally grow deep in the skin and slowly rise to the surface. They’re finally falling away.

A skin cell’s typical life cycle is a month. This production process can occur in just a few days in people with psoriasis. Skin cells do not have time to fall off because of this. This massive overproduction results in skin cells building up.

Does Psoriasis Affect Hair Health?

One of the most frequently affected places of psoriasis is the scalp. At least 50 percent of all individuals with plaque psoriasis have at least one flare-up on the scalp, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).

The back of the head is a common site of psoriasis, but it may affect several distinct areas of the scalp or the entire scalp.

What Are The Symptoms Of Psoriasis On Scalp?

Although often well camouflaged by the body, scalp psoriasis is often a source of social embarrassment due to scale flaking and extreme dandruff. Psoriasis of the scalp may not cause any signs or itchy at all. It appears to be a chronic issue, lasting several years, although it often fluctuates in frequency and intensity.

3.Itching

This is one of the symptoms most severe. The itching is mild for some; some people have severe itching that can interfere with daily life and cause sleepless nights.

4.Bleeding

Due to the very itchy condition of scalp psoriasis, almost everybody scratches. The scalp may bleed from scratching. It also helps to worsen psoriasis by scratching. Patches may be bigger and smoother by scratching. That’s why dermatologists say, “Try not to scratch your scalp,” to their patients.

5.Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common problem for scalp psoriasis patients. This hair loss is often caused by hair shafts or hair follicles damage and not by the psoriasis itself.

Hair loss can be caused by rubbing, scratching or overcombing and by synthetic ingredients and chemicals in treatments and related to psoriasis and psoriasis treatments is almost always temporary.

These is a common problem for scalp psoriasis patients.

Normal hair growth usually comes when the psoriasis is controlled and irritants have been decreased or prevented from rubbing, scratching and therapy. Hair follicles may only be affected in very rare cases, and the hair may not grow any more.
