How To Build a Daily Skin Care Routine ?

by admin October 2, 2020
written by admin October 2, 2020

Coming up with a skin care routine seems like a simple task. However, when you actually contemplate about deciding on the steps, it might get a little bit overwhelming. In establishing the sequence, there are some factors to consider: The skin type you have, how many products you want to add to your routine, what you want to improve about your skin. On whatever routine you decide, here are some steps and tips for you to establish the basics:

Identify Your Skin Type

Different skin types need different skin care products. While oily skins look shiny because of overproduction of oil. Thus, they may need mattifying ingredients. Dry skins have flaky areas with a tight feeling. Hence, they may need thick and rich moisturizers. The other two skin types are sensitive skin and combination skin. Sensitive skins are the ones that have red and irritated areas. Those areas are mostly painful to touch. Combination skins involve both oily and flaky areas.

After determining your skin type, you can have an idea of which products to avoid and which ones to choose. What is more, many skin products have on their labels for which skin types they are best suited. This way, looking for the right products will become easier. By including the basics, you will achieve an optimal skin care routine. Here are the basic steps to follow: Cleanse, moisturise, and apply sunscreen.

Basics of Skincare Routine

Not to overwhelm your skin, it is important not to look for more products than you need. Furthermore, sticking to as few products as possible will keep you away from spending extra money and wasting products. In the beginning, the most suitable routine is to cleanse, moisturise, and apply sunscreen. Later on, you can enhance this list by adding individual skincare needs. For instance, if you are suffering from acne, you may consider getting a “spot treatment.

Cleansing

Including cleansing as the first step of your skin care routine is critical. Cleansing your skin will remove dirt, oil, and bacteria that you encounter during the day or at night while sleeping. Cleansing your will help you have a fresh skin to start and end your day with. After removing any dirt and debris, your skin will be ready for maximum absorption of the products that you will use afterwards. This way, you will get maximum benefits from those products.

If you have oily skin, you should search for foaming cleansers that will remove excess oil and pore-clogging bacteria. On the other hand, if you have dry skin, you should go for hydrating cleansers. They will trigger the restoration of your skin’s moisture barrier.

Moisturising

Moisturisers containing ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid will help replenish the water your skin loses throughout the day. Even if you have oily skin, you should moisturise your skin. To compensate for lack of moisture, the skin produces more oil. The skin’s excessive oil production will ultimately lead to clogged pores and breakouts.

Applying Sunscreen

Many of us apply sunscreen only while sunbathing at the beach. However, we should put on sunscreen every day. This way, you will prevent skin cancer and the results of photoaging, which are dark spots and wrinkles.

Buying moisturisers that already contain SPF sunscreen will prevent you from spending extra money on a sunscreen. In addition, it will be easier to get the sun protection that your skin needs. Whether you get protection from combination products or from sunscreens alone, make sure that it is SPF 30 or higher.

Combining the Steps

Now that you know the basics of skincare, it is high time you put them into a routine for your morning and evening. In order to benefit from the three steps, you should follow your routine consistently on a daily basis. The sequence that you will follow will again depend on your skin type. For instance, if you have dry skin, you may skip cleansing your skin right in the morning. You may just wash your face instead. To see the effects of your routine, you should wait for at least six weeks. Your skin needs this time duration to renew its cells.

Routine Enhancers

In addition to the basics, you may feel the need to address certain issues about your skin. Acne, redness, or skin dullness might be amongst them. Here are some routine enhancers that work on different skincare needs:

Toners

There are various types of toners catering for different purposes. However, all toners remove the dirt or oil that stays even after cleansing your skin. Using a toner will make your skin ready for moisturising and following steps. Some particular toners address redness or balance the pH level of your skin to slow down signs of aging.

Acne Treatments

Before applying any treatment, you should cleanse your skin. Do not forget to set time aside before beginning with any acne treatments. The reason is that most of them will require 10-15 minutes to dry out. The treatments you will apply will contain ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. These ingredients will help your acne heal faster and you will experience fewer breakouts. Do not forget to apply these ingredients right after cleansing.

Exfoliators

Exfoliating the skin involves loosening the bonds between dead skin cells and the new cells beneath. Exfoliating the skin physically means scrubbing particles manually. On the other hand, chemical exfoliants contain alpha-hydroxy acids to chemically loosen those bonds.
