Hair Loss in Pregnancy And Care Advices

There are many changes appear in the body during pregnancy. One of them is hair loss that women frequently complain about. One of the main causes of hair loss during pregnancy is the negative effects of pregnancy hormones on the body. Normally our hair grows at the rate of 80% in the period of hair growth. When this rate decreases to around 70-60%, the amount of shedding hair increases visibly.

Well, when does hair loss start in pregnancy? During pregnancy, the lack of many foods inevitably occurs in the body. This process is evident from the 10th to the 14th week. It can continue for up to 6 weeks after birth.Ā

The most common period of hair loss occurs approximately three months after birth. The increase in hormones during pregnancy prevents hair loss. Hormones return to normal levels after birth. Thus, hair loss returns to the normal cycle. Postponed normal hair loss during pregnancy can occur suddenly.

Hair loss reaches its peak 3 to 4 months after birth because hair follicles regenerate themselves. As we mentioned in particular, hair loss during pregnancy and after pregnancy is temporary. And this hair loss returns to normal within six to twelve months.

Care Advices

Chemical products should be avoided as much as possible during pregnancy. Healthy and useful vegetable oils should be used. For example, almond oil, sesame oil, olive oil and walnut oil. Massage once a week or once every 15 days for 20 minutes. Hair dye, straightener, excessive hair dryer and brushes that cause the break the hair during pregnancy should be avoided.

Pregnancy and Post-Pregnancy Hair Loss Recommendations

We have a few suggestions for healthier hair and / or to reduce hair loss during pregnancy and after birth:

  • Consult your healthcare professional to help balance hormones.
  • Avoid using braids, buns, hair ties or hairpins that can pull and stress your hair.
  • Apply a nutritional list of fruits and vegetables that contain flavonoids and antioxidants that can protect hair follicles and promote hair growth.
  • Use shampoos and creams containing silica with biotin.
  • Hair is brittle when wet, so be gentle; Avoid fine toothed combs.
  • If you need to use dryers and other heated hair tools, use the cold setting.
  • Complete your diet with the following foods:
  • Vitamin B Complex
  • Biotin (possibly safe, verbal and appropriate)
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E (very safe when properly adjusted)
  • Zinc (very safe when the dose is adjusted correctly)

Our diet can solve this problem most effectively. Increasing fluid consumption, consuming foods rich in calcium (yogurt, cheese, etc.) and meeting the iron needs of the body holds an important place in terms of our hair health. Likewise, consuming too much fatty foods (šŸ”) will be dangerous for your health as well as the health of your hair.

During pregnancy, you can wash your hair 2-3 times a week, rather than washing it every day, reduce the amount of shampoo that is kept in the hair and rinse your hair well. If you use cream for your hair during pregnancy, hair conditioner should be applied only to the ends of the hair, hair bottoms should be prevented.

If the hair is dry and needs care you can make a mask that you can apply at home. You can maintainĀ  with vitamin E, olive oil and vitamin B ampoules. And you can hold this mask for 3-4 hours and rinse.
